120 yıl önce Japonya'dan misyonunu tamamladıktan sonra dönüşe geçerken elim bir kazada batan Ertuğrul gemisinde şehit olan 587 Türk denizci anısına Japon Sakura Vakfı tarafından gönderilen ve 23 Ekim 2005 yılında Botanik Bahçemize dikilen kiraz fidanları şimdi 4 yaşında gösterişli çiçekler bezenmeye başladı.
"2010 Türkiye'de Japon Yılı" vesilesi ile başlayarak, her yıl devam edecek olan anma töreni bu yıl 3 Nisan 2010 Cumartesi günü saat 14:00-15:30'da düzenlenecektir.
Anma törenine, Japon Elçilik ve Konsolosluk mensupları ve vatandaşları, Deniz Kuvvetleri temsilcileri, mülki erkân, Şehitlerin tespit edilen akrabaları davet edilecektir.
Deniz Kuvvetlerinden bir bando anma töreninde yer alacaktır.
Bir ney fon müziği eşliğinde tarihi hadise hatırlandıktan sonra, mümkün olursa bir Japon flütü fon müziği eşliğinde Japon kirazının (Sakura) önemi anlatılacaktır.
Konuşmalar yapıldıktan sonra şehitlik anıtı ve kiraz çiçekleri ziyaret edilecektir.

The cherry tree seedlings that were sent by the Japanese Sakura Foundation in memory of 587 martyrs of the Ertugrul Frigate on its way back to İstanbul were planted on 23 October 2005 in our Botanic Garden and now they are four years old and started to blossom.
The Commemoration Ceremony", which will be held for the first time within the scope of the "Japan Year 2010 in Turkey" activities this year, will continue in the forthcoming years. The Ceremony will be held on April 3, 2010, Saturday between 14:00-15:30.
The staff of the Japanese Embassy and the Japanese Consulate-General, Japanese citizens, representatives of the Naval Forces, senior officers, and martyrs' relatives that could be detected will be invited to the ceremony.
A band from the Naval Forces will participate in the Commemoration Ceremony.
The historical incidence will be commemorated with the company of a reed flute. Then, if arrangements can be made, the importance of Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) will be explained with the company of a Japanese flute.
The Martrys Monument and the cherry trees will be visited after the speeches.
