2002 AB-Japonya zirvesinde, dönemin AB Komisyon başkanı Romano Prodi ve Japonya başbakanı Junichiro Koizumi tarafından Avrupa ve Asya-Pasifik ülkelerinin arasında mimarlık üzerinden bir kültürel köprü kurma amacı ile başlatılan ve "önem verilen projeler" arasında gösterilen "Avrupa ve Asya-Pasifik'te Yeni Mimarlık Trendleri" sergisinin son durağı İstanbul olacaktır. Küratörlüğünü Sir Peter Cook ve Toyo Ito'nun yaptığı sergide Asya-Pasifik ülkelerinden yedi, Avrupa'dan sekiz mimarlık ofisinin işleri bir arada sergileniyor.
Sergi daha önce Tokyo, Porto, Rotterdam, Gent, Salamanca, Bordeaux, Lizbon, Madrid, Lille, Hong Kong, Cork, Melbourne, Anyang, Patras, Perth, Barselona, Lüksemburg ve Niigata'nın da dâhil olduğu 18 kentte sergilenmiştir.
Sergi kapsamında düzenlenecek olan panelin moderatörlüğünü Ömer Kanıpak yapacak ve Türkiye'den Han Tümertekin, Norveç'ten Reinhard Kropf, Portekiz'den Bernardo Rodrigues, Singapur'dan Mun Summ Wong ve İstanbul'da yaşayan ve çalışan Japon mimar Tatsuya Yamamoto konuşmacı olarak katılacak.

The exhibition 'New Trends in Architecture in Europe and Asia-Pacific' which was initiated in 2002 by a group of cultural and press counselors to Japan of the then fifteen EU memberstates, European cultural institutes, and a delegation of the European Commission to Japan with the aim of creating opportunities to share ideas and experiences between Europe and Japan, will have its final launching in Istanbul.
Sir Peter Cook and Toyo Ito, curators of the exhibition, made a selection of unique and outstanding projects of architects from 8 countries in Europe and 7 countries in Asia-Pacific which are being shown together.
The exhibition was already hosted in 18 cities including Tokyo, Salamanca, Bordeaux, Lizbon, Madrid, Lille, Hong Kong, Cork, Melbourne, Anyang, Porto, Patras, Perth, Barcelona, Luxembourg and Niiagata.
Within the context of the exhibition, a panel is organized with Ömer Kanıpak as moderator and Han Tümertekin, Reinhard Kropf from Norway, Bernardo Rodrigues from Portugal and Mun Summ Wong from Singapore as well as the Japanese Architect Tatsuya Yamamoto who works in Istanbul, as guest speakers.
