Uluslararası Antalya Kum Heykel Festivali 10'u aşkın ülkeden 40'a yakın kum heykel sanatçısı ve yaklaşık 30 kişilik teknik ekibin 2 ayı bulan çalışmasıyla hayata geçirilen ve hem Antalya hem de Türkiye'nin en önemli kültür-sanat etkinliklerinden birisidir. 7 bin metrekare genişliğindeki festival sergi alanında 7 bin 500 ton kum kullanılarak devasa boyutlarda 100'den fazla heykel sergilenmektedir. Sergi, bu özelliğiyle dünyanın en büyük kum heykel etkinlikleri arasında yer almaktadır. Heykellerin yapımında sadece su ve kum kullanılmaktadır.
Festival her sene farklı bir tema ile düzenlenmekte olup 2010 teması Mitoloji 2 olarak belirlenmiştir. Kültürün, sanatın ve yenilikçiliğin kumda yaşam bulduğu kum heykel sergisinin yapımına Nisan ayında başlanmakta ve 2 ayı bulan çalışmanın ardından 20 Mayıs'ta sanatseverlerle buluşmaktadır. Yunan, Mısır, Aztek, İran, İskandinav, Çin, Hint, Afrika, Avustralya, Amerika, Türk ve daha pek çok medeniyete ait dünyanın en önemli mitolojik olay ve kahramanının canlandırılacağı sergide Zeus, Zümrüd'ü Anka, Mısır Piramidi, Basted, Odin, Cyclops, Ganesha, Pegas, 300 Spartalı, Truva Atı, Hacivat-Karagöz gibi heykellerin yanı sıra bu yılın Türkiye'de Japonya Yılı olması münasebetiyle Maneki Neko'nun kumdan heykeline yer verilecektir. Festival alanı gündüz olduğu kadar geceleri de ziyarete açık olup özel olarak ışıklandırılmış heykeller, ses-ışık-sis gösterileri ile adeta büyülü bir havaya bürünmekte, ziyaretçiler böylelikle unutulmaz bir macera fırsatı bulmaktadır. Festival boyunca ziyaretçiler ayrıca heykellerin yapım aşamalarının yer aldığı festival belgeselini sinevizyon gösterisinde izleme imkânı bulmaktadırlar.

The International Antalya Sand Sculpture Festival is one of the most attractive cultural-artistic events of Antalya and Turkey. This year, approximately 40 sand sculptors from more than 10 countries participated in the festival and finished their sculptures in two months with the help of a 30-people technical support team. More than 100 sand sculptures are exhibited on a land of 7,000 square meters and 7,500 tons of sand was used to build the sculptures. With these features, the exhibition is therefore, one of the biggest sand sculpture events in the world. Only sand and water are used to build the sculptures.
The festival has different themes each year and the theme for 2010 is Mythology 2. The preparations of the sand sculpture exhibition where culture, art and innovation are expressed in sand start in April and the exhibition meets art followers on 20 May 2010. The sand sculptures of mythological events and characters of Greece, Egypt, Aztec, Iran, Scandinavia, China, India, Africa, Australia, America and Turkey will be exhibited. These sculptures include Zeus, Phoenix, Egyptian Pyramid, Bastes, Odin, Cyclops, Ganesha, Pegas, 300 Spartians, Trojan Horse, Hacivat-Karagöz and Maneki Neko, as 2010 is the Japan Year in Turkey. The festival site will be open to visitors at night as well. The sculptures that are highlighted with special effects have a magical impact with special sound-light-smoke effects and hence, visitors find the opportunity to have an unforgettable adventure. The visitors will also be able to watch the preparation stages of the sculptures in the festival documentary reflected to big cinema screens.
